I’ll go out on a limb and say if Jaren Hall would’ve gotten the same opportunity JJ got he would be our starting QB right now.

How could the Vikings move on so easily from him seeing that final drive where he was injured???? He looked better than JJ and Kyler Murray.

From Yesterday's Gameday thread. I saw a trade coming, even got the position right. FML.

The rumour JJ was going to be cut looks a little different now in hindsight. I dismissed it as outlandish nonsense but now it's clear that was on the table.

The organization must truly have hated him to get back only a 5th. The offseason is generally filled with hack reporters desperate for clicks and I generally ignore it. Looking back what was leaked that is interesting in a new light? Anything with attitude?

Kevin O'Connell seemed on the verge of tears multiple times throughout the presser, and he kept talking about the trade as "the decision that was made". I think he was overruled on this trade and wanted to keep McCarthy, either for good reasons or for reasons of personal brand.

Thoughts? Are there greater implications to read into the differences in the Teasley and KOC pressers w/r to this trade?

Was Kyler bad yesterday, yes….did KOC help him at all? No

This franchise and fanbase have the inability to be patient with things, it’s always instant gratification. If you aren’t Josh Allen day 1, you are bad.

Problem wasn’t qb play - o line play - RBs or wr.

It was because we had too many JJ’s on the active roster - now we are back to the correct amount of JJ’s the offense will flourish once again.

And before anyone says we had McCarthy in 24 he was on IR all season long.

If the seat under Koc is heating up at all, this will be the guy.

When we compare Mike Zimmer’s first four years in Minnesota to Kevin O’Connell’s first four, I think the narrative around KOC being some kind of genius/master head coach gets a little ahead of itself.

So yes, KOC has four more regular season wins and a better winning percentage due to the extra game. But if we're handing out "master coach" labels, the postseason results matter too and Zimmer actually accomplished more when the games mattered most.

And here's the bigger context: Zimmer had plenty of shit to deal with.

He dealt with Adrian Peterson being suspended, the Teddy Bridgewater injury, the Blair Walsh meltdown, the Stefon Diggs situation, injuries throughout the roster, and plenty of organizational drama. Yet he still got Minnesota to an NFC Championship.

Zimmer's offense was also legitimately rough early in his tenure. But let's be honest about the personnel evolution. His offense became much more effective once guys like Stefon Diggs and Adam Thielen emerged.

And that's where I think the comparison gets interesting.

KOC gets enormous credit for building an explosive offense around Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison. Fair enough. But Zimmer eventually had Diggs and Thielen.

Both coaching staffs benefited from having elite receiving talent.

The biggest difference is that KOC inherited a roster that already had Jefferson, Dalvin Cook, an established offensive line core, and other significant pieces. Zimmer's tenure involved substantially more roster transition and adversity.

I'm not saying Zimmer was a better coach than KOC. I'm saying the data doesn't support acting like the comparison is Zimmer the incompetent dinosaur vs. KOC the offensive coaching savant.

Through four years, they're actually remarkably comparable.

Calling KOC a proven "master HC" while treating Zimmer's tenure as an obvious failure doesn't really survive a look at the actual results.

I was at the game in-person so I didn’t get to see everything but Kyle Van Noy seemed like he had a damn good game yesterday. There were multiple times he was in the mix and getting pressures. I know he’s not meant to be a starter or anything but from what I saw yesterday, he fit in really well.

Also Stafford, Mahomes, Purdy, Burrow, Lamar, etc. Is Kyler as good as these guys over the course of a season? No. Are many on this sub completely overreacting to one somewhat shitty game where our best player went out early? Absolutely.

We’re 3 and f****ing 0. Packers look lost, Bears have a tough injury situation and the Lions are dynamic but also have flaws (just like every single other NFL team btw).

Kyler is by far the most talented option we have, and if this offense does click we are a formidable opponent for everyone, especially at home. Not many teams can say they’re 3-0 with two big divisional victories to open the season.

First Jaren Hall, now JJ McCarthy, potentially Max Brosmer.

He needs full accountability for what this offense is now. Kirk isn’t hurt, the rookie you thought was good ended up sucking. He wanted this offense, he could have signed Kirk or Aaron Rodgers this offseason and arguably we would be Super Bowl contenders with either of them. If Kyler keeps playing this way, it’s completely on KOC. If the offense isn’t nearing top 10-15, his seat better be toasty going into the 2027 season. It’s a team game but the reason we are 3-0 is because of special teams (including Will) and the defense.
