I’m not sure if I just haven’t given this game enough of a chance, or if it’s just not for me. I’m 32% into the game and so far, both the game play and story feel incredibly shallow and the side missions that I’ve explored are very boring. The only thing I’ve really enjoyed about this game is the fact that it’s one of the most beautiful games visually I’ve every played. It feels like an ocean that is an inch deep so far. For context, some of my favorite games are elden ring, god of war series, telltale’s the walking dead, the assassin’s creed series, gta 5, the red dead games, fallout 4, mafia 2, jedi survivor, the first two metro games, resident evil 7+8, bioshock infinite, and the call of duty zombies games. Have I not given the game enough of a chance, or should I just move on from it?

A lot of people I know my age and they were gamers since childhood used to play skill-required games: counter strike (or other shooters), RTS, moba, RPG, complex puzzle games. I am born in 2000.

Nowadays child played games are casual, low-brain requiring, easy to get high dopamine in a short amount of time.

So, title: Am I delusional to think that? If there is a skill gap between generations, why do you think it happens? My prediction is that children consume a lot of brainrot content on tiktok (and/or other similar social media)

It kind of baffles me how wildly successful the Marvel cinematic universe has been, but at the same time just completely failed to make the same strategy for the gaming industry.

Why would they not gather their properties underneath a single launcher, and sell games directly inside of it with cross promotion?

You bought the spider-man game? Here’s a skin for rivals.

You bought an X-Men game? You can now play as Colossus in Spider-man.

Here’s New York City in the MGU, go nuts and play as any character you want.

Here’s the savage lands.

Here’s the danger room.

Here’s all the X-Men.

Here’s ghost Rider.

Minecraft is THE most popular game in the world right now and because of how long it's lasted, people think it will stay relevant forever. But let's be honest, eventually it's gonna die. Whether they release too many updates and it's not the same game anymore or time just gets the best of it. So when do you guys think the game will end and people will only play it for nostalgia?

Mine was when I first played baldurs gate 3 back in July 2024, and I remember finishing the game within like a few months solely because I kept taking mini breaks from the game here and there. It was one of the best games I’ve ever played, and to this day, I keep replaying it due to how amazing it truly is. Same for deltarune and undertale, those games absolutely changed my life and I will forever be grateful that I got a chance to play such beautiful games.

Looks like the game was a huge hit among PlayStation gamers. Over 55k people rating it and sitting at almost near perfect score. Also the game is outselling everything out recently by a huge margin and globally ranked #1.

Remedy Entertainment has never had a breakthrough with game sales, and Control Resonant might have started well, or it might have started badly, we'll see the info soon.

Alan wake 2 took a long time to generate profits, and the thing to admire about remedy is that they maintain their strange and authorial identity, But what does this mean? That no matter how appreciated your game is, if it doesn't sell, it's a problem.

I think Control Resonant is the most hyped Remedy game ever, but it's still a game for a small segment of gamers. It's a complex, strange game, and if you have particular health conditions you can't even play it.

In my opinion, Remedy should remain this way forever, authorial and unique. But unfortunately, if the games don't sell, it's a problem.

Finally gained the means to game again due to life circumstances,

I was so excited to finally play battlefield 6 but just didn’t feel it.

mw4 beta was “okay” at best.

borderlands 4 was dry in the sense that none of the characters felt meaningful compared to previous games.

I don’t understand what’s going on, I can’t find the spark or dopamine that sucks me in, every new game feels empty / soulless.

I still love gaming but I feel “stuck” like I cannot find a game I can sink hours into, still waiting for GTA6 and praying that it consumes me like gta5 -gta online did.

Anyone else that feels and or has felt like this, what games drew you back in or what did you do to make gaming feel fulfilling again.

I remember playing a game on my dad's windows 7 computer some time between 2013 and 2015. It was an alien/space first person shooter. I remember the first level being in a flat futuristic like base that kind of reminded me of the Subnautica alien structures. Other than that, I don't remember much about the game. The desktop icon is what I do remember. I've tried my best to recreate it with photoshop. The best way I can describe it is if the alien arena icon was hyper realistic. I don't know for sure if the face was an alien or a semi deformed human. Does anyone know what game this is??

So I just got to Ganon’s castle in A Link to the Past using Nintendo Switch Online it got me thinking. The games difficulty for me was largely different than those that played on original hardware with the added ability to rewind and create save slots. As a Gen Z member, I imagine not many kids in the neighborhood getting as far as I have let alone owning an SNES. With the lack of online video sharing, many kids weren’t able to know how the game ends due to the sheer amount of difficulty and time required to get that far.

Have you gone to or hosted any get-togethers to watch how games ended with your friends? How were video games experienced by those in the community who were interested, but couldn’t afford a console?

I imagine the hype leading up to the viewing and the discussions about it afterwards being immaculate. Or the player being the one person who sees each story beat and them passing it along to their friends as if it were a legend, right before the ending. Nowadays, people immediately turn to go online after a movie or game ends to hear others opinions. How was it back then?

Not even mentioning it didn't need the remaster.

It doesn't look worse but it looks different and not in a good way.

It's like they took a piece of the soul from the game to make it look crisper.

Hey all, hope you had a good week end!

Been playing Control a lot recently that was on my shelf for a while. And it's so so so good! Probably my second favorite Remedy game right after the og Max Payne...and yet I wish so bad that it'd been a horror game!

The lore is super fun to piece together, it's weird, it's SCP eldritch horror but with great characters too. I love it...and I wish it existed in a less action oriented game. And at the same time, the gameplay is fun and challenging, and it's visually pretty bombastic with everything flying around and exploding with the powers, it's just a joy to play.

Very weird feelings to have simultaneously.

And it reminded me of Bioshock, again a game I adore, and one I finished about 10 times since its release, always enjoying it thouroughly. Yet I never shook the feeling that I'd love for it to be more immersive sim than FPS with powers.

Do you have any games that make you feel like that?

It feels like almost every modern action/adventure title shoehorns in light RPG mechanics just to pad playtime. Finding grey/green/purple gear with "+2% fire resistance" or stopping mid-quest to pick up berries and iron scrap often breaks the entire narrative pacing. Which game genres do you feel were actively made worse by forced RPG elements?

Hi guys, so I'm going to buy either the switch 2 or PS5. So bit of a backstory, I've always been a playstation guy, have all the previous gens and the only other console I've ever had was a Pikachu N64 I got for Christmas as a kid, I loved it but only had a handful of games. So I was always intending to buy a ps5 once a game came out that I was desperate to play but honestly....that moment never came. I was tempted with the Oblivion Remake, the hype around expedition 33 etc but honestly nothing has really made me desperate to get one which I am surprised at....I still use my PS4 consistently and I'm more than happy going through my PS4 game backlog. However, I have seen that Zelda the ocarina of time is getting a remaster soon, this was one of the only games I had for my N64 and I'm so tempted to get the switch 2 for the remake as honestly the original is one of the best games I've ever played...I honestly never thought I'd be tempted to get a switch 2 but here I am...I would also be tempted to play other Zelda titles like breath of the wild, tears of the kingdom etc. My partner also loves playing the odd fun coop game, we play it takes 2, overcooked etc together so was thinking a switch 2 might be fun for her also. My question is, am I really underselling the ps5 by thinking there's no amazing next gen games out, Im not too fussed on GTA and I'm more interested in fantasy games like eden ring or any from soft game for that matter. I'm honestly a bit scared of getting a ps5 so deep into it's lifespan....I imagine the ps6 will be just around that corner in about 2-3 years? Just was wanting some advice or stories from people who own both and what they think. Thank you all :)
