Discussion Career Crisis - Mid 30s
Ok, maybe crisis is a little strong, but I feel so burnt out from work. On paper, everything looks good, remote, get paid well, benefits, etc., but the work itself is just not enjoyable at all to me anymore.
For the last several years, I just haven't enjoyed my jobs anymore. I've felt very lost. Who knew that picking a career at 18 years old would not lead to happiness professionally!...
Have any of you guys completely changed careers in your 30s? Or got into an "easier" role with less money?
I don't need to be making a ton ($200k+/year) of money. I don't plan on having kids. I have no debts. But also $50,000/year won't be enough for my lifestyle. I just don't want to be living for the weekends anymore. I get major Sunday scaries. I'm always looking forward to Friday. I know work is work and there are no perfect jobs, but there has to be something out there that's more aligned to my strengths, interests, personality, etc. and that I would actually enjoy mostly doing every week. But I also have no idea what that may be. There's not another job or career that's essentially calling me.
So, I guess my question is, for those who have made big job or career pivots, how did you determine what was a good job/career for you? Any books? Tests? Career coach? Therapist? etc.? How long did the transition take? Just your overall experience and insights would be helpful. Thanks!!
