PTR / Beta Hear me out... wagon rides
Having wagon rides between towns that you can hop on and hop off and meet people would add a dynamic way to make the world feel fuller and easier to connect.
I noticed my guildmates and I would use the wagons in the housing area to tour the zone and talk. I thought itd be a good thing to add to the beta esp prior to unlocking flight paths!
They dont go fast but they are faster than walking and way more social

Discussion I did some more Photoshops using existing assets of what updated Skyboxes could look like in WoW Forever
These were all made by using existing Skyboxes that are in the game files and dropping them into the scene. Obviously much can be improved, I'm just an amateur hobbyist as well and these would look much different in game with movement, color correction, behind fog, etc.
Still though, the sky is about 30-50% of what you're looking at all times when you're out in the world, I think it is a large change you can make that would be super influential on how every zone feels.

Discussion Punish Streamer gold donations
Blizzard should punish streamers for receiving gold donations. A lot of people try to keep up with streamers and the hype - punishing them will directly decrease the frequency of normal players buying gold.
This also means streamers need to actually do good farms which has them streaming WoW Forever for more hours.
I understand this will just result in streamers doing group content for expensive items, but at least they are leaving the major city to accomplish goals.

Discussion Some people are so traumatized by Retail that they don’t want anything new.
As long as the level cap stays at 60, no dungeon finder and world PvP remain, and there are no flying mounts, I don't mind new things.
I think things like new classes, new races, and housing add variety to the game as long as they're implemented properly. I don't understand why people don't want these things.
And I want to know please explain why

PTR / Beta Forever Beta PVE Census Sep 20 to Sep 27
Hello again. I have continued to take census data on the WoW Forever Beta PVE server. The infographic shows my results from September 20th through September 27th. The census is restricted to level 20 characters, and was taken each day between 6pm and 9pm server time. This infographic only shows characters who were logged in at the time of the census, so it is not a full accounting of every level 20 that exists on the server. Due to the limitations of /who, these numbers may be lower than the real number of characters logged in during the census (particularly undead paladins). It's the best you can do with a /who!
Data is collected in game by an addon that was authored with the help of Claude Code.
Starting September 22nd I started tracking daily sightings, which provides the data for the characters seen per scan and the new vs returning characters per scan bar charts. For the new vs returning characters per scan bar chart, a new character is one that had not previously been tracked by the census, and returning is a character that had previously been tracked.
Two new bar charts explore the racial distribution for each class. The infographic closes with a top 5 most popular race and class combination, as well as a top 5 least popular race and class combination.

Meme Lore accurate Undead Holy spell casting
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
In Warcraft lore, Undead casting Holy spells cause them extreme pain. I wanted to up my immersion by creating an addon that played a pain sound every time your Undead character cast a Holy spell.

PTR / Beta I made an addon that adds the zone each person is in for the LFG browser
Link: https://www.curseforge.com/wow/addons/whereyouat
I personally hated always having to do /who on each person to see whether or not they are close to the dungeon. It turns out the client already loads that information internally for each entry, but doesn't display it, so I made an addon that does. Enjoy!
The creation of the addon was AI-assisted. It's extremely light weight, only 45 lines of code.

Discussion Enjoying the game so much that I simply must mute this sub
I suggest anyone else really loving the beta, and excited to see what comes next from it do the same. This sub is actively ruining the mood.
Its overflowing with dumb crap. Constant "tHey ShouLD dO insert the dumbest thing you have ever heard here".
I get it, the game is wildly popular and has had a huge surge of activity, mods are probably few and far between, and there is a lot of WoW doomers and sweats in the community. It is what it is.
I'd love to see actual constructive criticism but 98% of posts are just the most insanely dogshit takes I think I have ever seen for a game - like things that would fundamentally erode fun and sound stupid if you think about them for longer than 10 seconds.
See you all on Nov 4th, good luck mods!

Discussion Prediction: Undead Paladin will be the most overpopulated race/class at level 10 but it'll be only slightly above average at level 60.
Second Prediction: Prot & Holy Paladins will still be sufficiently rare and will have no difficulties finding groups.
Third Prediction: Holy Paladins will have no problem finding raid spots because everyone wants Kings, Wis/Might, and Salvation.
Fourth Prediction: The Ret Pallies will fall off in droves around 30-40.
Fifth Prediction: Disc Priests will have a hellish time getting raid spots.

Discussion Deeply Conflicted
I received some devastating news today.
A bunch of us - friends, coworkers, old guildies - are getting back into WoW. We’ve been talking about it since the news about WoW Forever dropped. Several of us have upgraded or bought new PCs... the excitement is real and I thought we were rebuilding something beautiful.
Today I found out they’re all rolling Alliance.
I have played Horde through Vanilla, TBC, Wrath, and now TBC Classic. It's not even a choice anymore; it's all I know.
Obviously I’ll join them. We’re nearly 40, we have kids, and playing with friends is the entire reason we're jumping back in. But I’m a little disturbed by how seriously I considered abandoning them all to play solo.
Anyone else experienced this? Does the shame fade, or do you just learn to live with it?

Discussion Hybrid tax is a nonsense concept and shouldn't exist
I keep seeing people defending the idea that hybrid classes like Paladins, Druids or Shamans shouldn't be able to compete for top DPS because they can also heal or tank, while "pure" DPS classes like Mages, Rogues, Hunters or Warlocks should naturally do more damage.
I honestly don't understand the logic behind this.
First of all, choosing to play DPS on a hybrid class doesn't magically mean you can perform every other role optimally at the same time. Your talents, gear and stats are generally built around the role you're playing. A DPS Paladin isn't suddenly going to replace a properly specced and geared healer or tank just because the class technically has access to those roles. Yes, it might use some spells as utility, but these people talk about hybrid utility as if pure DPS classes don't have utility themselves.
Mage is a pure DPS class and has some of the best CC and utility in the game. Warlocks bring plenty of utility too. Rogues have CC, interrupts and other tools that can be extremely valuable. Hunters also bring their own utility.
So why should access to healing or tanking specs automatically translate into lower DPS, while all the utility available to pure DPS classes doesn't come with the same penalty?
And more importantly: what is the point of giving a class DPS specs if those specs are intentionally designed to be worse at DPS?
If someone wants to play a Paladin, Druid or Shaman as DPS and they play their class extremely well, why should they have to accept that an equally skilled Mage, Rogue or Hunter is simply supposed to outperform them because of the class they picked at character creation?
I'm not saying every DPS spec needs to do exactly the same damage. Different encounters, strengths, weaknesses, utility and damage profiles should naturally create differences.
But there's a huge difference between that and deliberately saying:
"You're a hybrid, therefore your DPS ceiling should be lower."
To me, DPS specs should be balanced against other DPS specs. Tank specs should be balanced against tanks, and healing specs against healers.
If a hybrid DPS spec brings too much utility while also doing top-tier damage, then balance that specific utility or introduce meaningful trade-offs within the spec. Don't just slap a permanent DPS penalty on it because somewhere else in its class design it has the ability to heal or tank.
And there's another point that I think gets overlooked: pure DPS classes already have an inherent advantage over hybrids. They don't need a hybrid tax on top of it.
Let's imagine that in the first patch of Forever, Retribution Paladin and Frost Mage are both S-tier DPS. Then the next patch comes out, balance changes happen, and both Ret and Frost drop to A or B tier. What's the difference? The Mage still has Fire and Arcane. There are two other DPS options they can potentially switch to. Maybe Frost isn't S-tier anymore, but Fire is. The Mage player can change spec and remain one of the strongest DPS classes in the game.
What does the Retribution Paladin do? Nothing. If Ret drops, that's it. If you want to keep playing DPS on your Paladin, you play Ret. Your alternatives are changing roles or changing characters entirely. That, to me, that should be the only natural advantage of choosing a pure DPS class.
If you know from the beginning that all you care about is DPS, picking a pure DPS class gives you several chances at having a top-performing spec in any given patch. A Mage has three DPS specs. A Rogue has three. A Warlock has three. It's obviously possible for all of them to be weak at the same time, but statistically and from a balancing perspective, having three different DPS specs gives you more opportunities for at least one of them to perform well.
A hybrid with only one DPS option doesn't have that luxury. Its DPS spec might be S-tier this patch and mediocre the next one, and the player can't simply switch to another DPS spec within the same class.
That's already a perfectly meaningful trade-off between pure and hybrid classes. But not putting some ceiling over the DPS that an hybrid class can aspire.
Pure classes sacrifice access to tanking or healing roles in exchange for having multiple ways to perform their chosen role. Hybrids gain access to different roles, but have fewer options within each of them.
That's a much more interesting distinction than artificially deciding that hybrids must do less damage.
So yes, Ret Paladins should be allowed to outperform Mage. Feral should be allowed to outperform Rogue. Enhancement or Elemental should be allowed to outperform Warlock or Hunter.
They shouldn't always outperform them, obviously. No spec should permanently sit at the top. But there should be absolutely no design philosophy saying that they can't.
If you're playing a DPS role, your potential DPS should depend on your spec, gear, encounter and skill, not on whether your class happens to have access to another role.
Pure DPS classes already have the advantage of having multiple DPS specs to fall back on. They don't need hybrids to be deliberately worse on top of that.
What's the actual argument for hybrid tax in 2026?

PTR / Beta Currently unable to finish the druid cat form quest because too many people are trying to loot the last idol at the same time.
Just recently hit 20 on my druid and was excited to use my new feral cat form when I came across this monstrous line to loot the last item in the quest. Apparently this has been happening for a while now from all the people going insane in general chat trying to loot it for days, unable to finish the quest for their cat form. This is absolutely insane where people started griefing and not loot the idol if they're able to get through or people just swarming the statue making this line utterly useless. So can we get a fix for this? I've already sent a ticket and I'm assuming people have been since the start of this debacle but I haven't seen anything in the patch notes or social media talking about it. I've also noticed the same thing happened with the clockwatch cabinet in westfall where if everyone tries to interact with the object then no one can loot the quest item. Eventually if you spammed the cabinet in westfall you could eventually get the item which is what I'm assuming keeps happening here. I could hear hundreds of people constantly spamming the loot action and getting the stealth buff that you get after looting a statue, in hopes of getting the idol but in doing so it prevents anyone from getting it but honestly this shouldn't even be a thing, it should just allow everyone to loot the damn idol. This is honestly a huge problem and like i've said, I've already sent a ticket in in hopes of getting it fixed but I don't see enough people bringing this up. I just want to be a cat damnit.

Question What is the appeal of SD models?
I am not a retail fan, I think the story and gameplay loop is unsatisfying compared to classic. That said I fail to see how worse models makes for a better game. I'd be perfectly happy to see wow forever use entirely retail graphics (although ideally desaturated ones) and keep the gameplay that makes classic compelling.
I really am struggling to understand why people act like SD models are somehow core to the experience of what makes classic enjoyable.
Anyone care to explain or make an argument on that other than "go back to retail?"

Discussion 'World of Warcraft: Forever' is extremely dangerous (complimentary) (SkillUp)
Great little set of thoughts from SkillUp. IMO, you can feel a level of excitement for this, I've not seen about WoW since WOTLK/Cataclysm. It's great to see.
I feel giddy with excitement from other peoples excitement.
I also think it's interesting to see how Forever is sparking way more excitement than Classic did.

Discussion Wow forever should add party vs party duels
Anyone else want to see party vs party dueling?
How it would work is the leader of the party challenges another leader of a party to a group duel.
You could do 2v2 or 5v5 or even 2v3 or whatever combo you want.
It’s a solid alternative to arena without adding in arena and everything that comes with it. It wouldn’t take anything away from the game at all just add.
