Actually fed up

Called out today because my cat has been sick and today she got way worse and I needed to take her to the emergency vet. My boss said “Yeah go ahead take your cat to the vet, what do you expect me to do now?” and scolded me on the phone as if a serving job is more important than my cat.

Thats all I have to say I am just pissed tf off.

i started my first real job about 3 weeks ago and i hate it so much.

i work as a brand ambassador and my job is basically standing somewhere and talking to random people trying to sell them something. i have to act and look professional as well and it drains me.

first of all i am an introvert and after work my social battery is really low, i dont even have the energy to have a conversation with my flatmate. i also have a bit of social anxiety and the thought of talking to all those people who clearly dont want to listen makes me feel nauseous. im taking meds for that tho so its manageable.

idk i honestly just feel like a jester, a really pathetic one at that. the people avoid and ignore me, and i am not even mad about that cause id avoid me too. i hate being the person everyone hates. i feel like shit when someone ignores me cause it makes me feel invisible. i do have some unresolved problems when it comes to the topic of feeling invisible so im guessing thats the reason why it makes me feel bad, anyways

is it ok to quit a job after a month?? the paper i signed said id be hired for a long long time. idk what to do. i hate it.

I truly can’t do this anymore…

a long rant so i don’t have to keep this bottled up anymore…

About a month ago, I (17F) started an internship at an animal research center. It was very competitive and stressful but I felt like i was very lucky to have received it. I was so excited when I was first applying because i thought this would give me a great opportunity to explore my career field and be around things I loved.

A little semi-necessary info about me; I absolutely love fish. That is one thing about me that you could ask anyone and they will know. I live and breathe fish. I love fishing, I love their colors, I love their mechanisms, I love eating them, etc. So when I applied, we had the choice to select our first, second, and third choice. All of the choices I selected were for fish or at least animal related. However, when the results came out, I got a placement that had nothing to do with what I put.

The program that I got was related to production and backstage stuff including things like mascots and shows. This is something I have no interest in or desire to pursue but I was willing to ride it out because this was a great opportunity and I they had already pushed me to sign a yearlong commitment🙄. But, this not sticking up for myself and saying that the department was fine was one of the biggest mistakes of my life.

Ever since my first day it has been a complete and utter nightmare. To start, I have the worst schedule known to man because I have to be there at the same time as my “mentor”. This includes Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays for almost 8 hours. This is taking away from the fun of my senior year like me hanging out with friends, finishing my college applications, or doing volunteer service for clubs i actually like. To top it all off I learned recently that I will be at this place that I absolutely despise on my homecoming and halloween.

Everybody, while being relatively nice is incredibly passive aggressive and cliquey. They have their own sort of work friendship and let me know often that I am not apart of it. They are also just as confused as me as the why I was placed in this department and seem to take a lot of offense at the fact that I have no interest in theater/production. Some however, don’t know that I am not interested in production and are thus incredibly snarky and rude when I don’t know how to work a program I have never seen before. And in my personal opinion they are all extremely annoying.

Thankfully one of my friends did this program a year prior and was also in a department she hated so we can kind of vent to each other a little bit. But I really have no one to talk to about this. I am essentially sacrificing my free time for absolutely nothing. This is an unpaid internship so I don’t get any financial incentive to keep going, I hate my “coworkers”, and I have no interest whatsoever in this as a career.

This entire experience, even only a or two month in, has tremendously affected my mental state. I spend my entire week dreading when the next time I have to go in is, crying because people there were mean and i don’t want to be there, or curled up in a ball at home. Just last Friday, I had an emotional breakdown since I realized I had to be there 7 hrs on Saturday after a terrible day that Friday. I’m really trying to push through but i don’t know how much more of this I can take.

(also I learned that another girl that’s part of the program and had the department that I wanted to be in switched to another department because she could only be there for like a few hours🫠)

Sorry this was super long I just had to get all of this off my chest

I hate my job and it's only been two weeks.

I just got a promotion from part time to a lead, had three weeks of training and now that it's live all I've run into are problems. I have trained about 1/3 the amount of people I should have because my boss didn't schedule them. My associates make a lot of mistakes and my performance numbers are bad. Management keeps taking my people for other tasks or not scheduling enough people and not assisting my associates. My stress is as high as it was in a previous job and I almost unalived myself when that was happening. I just can't see past the similarities between the situations.

I quit my awful job and they’ve offered me crazy money to come back… need advice.

I’m a qualified tradesman, who has worked for a REALLY sketchy company for about 11 months.

For context I’m 25 living in Gold Coast, Australia and had just been laid off from my last job as my boss didn’t have enough work, this boss already payed me well above the award (award around $45, he was paying me $55).

Anyway, I applied to a heap of jobs but one specific company called me back almost immediately. Next thing I knew I had an interview booked that arvo. I had only just got a mortgage last year so needed work ASAP.

Interview went well and got offered a job immediately at $50 an hour.

First day was odd and immediately knew something was up, no logos and no branding on any uniform or vehicles. And then I noticed on the service app we use that we were operating under multiple companies. Then I seen the prices…. My god.

The way the company worked was you were pretty much a salesman for these prices and you earned commission based on how much you sold each week, you had to deal with all the objections and everything.

By week 3, I was completely done. I handed in my resignation and told them I’m not working for this company. 24 hours later they came back and offered me $65 an hour, this was an offer I couldn’t refuse with my young family and mortgage.

Fast forward to 2 weeks ago the job wasnt worth the money to me anymore, i literally could not bring myself to do it anymore, so i quit. 24 hours later they offered me $70 an hour + $5000 bonus after 6 months.

Once again sadly I couldn’t refuse at the time but tomorrow is my first day back and im greatly regretting my decision. No amount of money is worth this job for me anymore.

You’re probably thinking I’m being dramatic but we charge 3-4x the price of a standard company, I’ve had clients crying in my face, screaming at me, recording me and threatening me. The bosses are some of the worst micromanager imaginable. I was regularly getting called out to jobs at stupid hours in the morning just to get rejected and go home with 1 hours pay and then expected to rock up to work at 7am. Regularly getting leave knocked back because we’re “too busy” and then rocking up to work on those dates and only having 2 jobs on that day. Losing sleep thinking about the job.

So I need advice, I’m I stupid to not take this money? Should I give it another week and decide? Or do I just tell them I’ve made a mistake and I won’t be returning?

TL;DR: Qualified tradesman with a mortgage and young family. Took a $50/hr plumbing job, quickly realised it was a sketchy, high-pressure sales company charging 3–4× normal prices. Customers regularly abuse/record me, management micromanages, hours are unreasonable, leave gets knocked back, and the job has caused serious stress and lost sleep.
I quit twice, but they kept offering more money—now $70/hr + a $5k bonus. I accepted again but regret it badly before even starting back tomorrow.
Do I give it another week, or tell them I made a mistake and leave? Am I stupid to walk away from $70/hr?

My current job part time FedEx Indy hub. Make $23.50/hr only getting max 20hrs a week sometimes only 17 hours. After taxes it’s around $370-$425wk bills are $850 vehicle plus shared rent with wife, $50-$75 car insurance, debt $350min payment. Should I quit and just go to a staffing agency? I’ve worked here in the past and made it work, but was told they cut hours when I came back to this job 2 months ago. Also shift is 12am-4:30am

I’m burned out in a leadership role, but I’m struggling to figure out what I should do next

I’ve spent almost the last decade at the same nonprofit and worked my way up from on-the-ground staff to semi-executive space. My background is in program management, operations, strategy, partnerships, and people leadership. I’ve had a lot of growth and, objectively, I’ve done pretty well for myself.

But as many of us are in this field, I’m really burned out.

I’ve been working through this in therapy, and one thing I’ve realized is that it’s not necessarily the amount of work that’s burning me out. It’s the emotional responsibility that comes with leadership and how familiar that feeling is to me. I’ve been taking on major responsibility since I was a young girl. I’ve spent a huge portion of my life being the responsible one, figuring things out, anticipating problems, helping other people, and feeling like I need to be prepared for whatever might happen next. I think I’ve gotten extremely good at carrying responsibility, but I’m realizing I may be exhausted from having to carry it all the time.

My current role amplifies that. I’m constantly anticipating problems, thinking about how things could go wrong, managing other people’s needs and emotions, being caught between staff and senior leadership, and feeling responsible for the outcome even when things are outside my control. So I’m starting to wonder whether I actually want a career where I’m responsible for other people at this level anymore.

My current job actually has a lot going for it: competitive salary for the industry (100k-130k), flexibility, autonomy, good benefits, generous PTO/holidays, and a lot of trust. I also have significant financial responsibilities, so I can’t just quit and “figure it out” or take a huge pay cut.

I’m open to changing industries and even going back to school if there’s a clear ROI, but I don’t want to spend years and thousands of dollars retraining just to discover I’ve traded one kind of burnout for another.

For anyone who has made a similar transition: how did you figure out what kind of work would actually be a better fit for you, rather than just finding another job you were technically qualified for?

Especially interested in hearing from people who left leadership/management because of the emotional burden of the role, or who realized they’d spent most of their lives being “the responsible one” and needed their work to feel different.

I am so sick and tired of my boss treating me like trash

My friends and family are probably so sick and tired of hearing me go on and on about my job. I am doing this to myself at this point and I can't keep expecting them to listen to me.

I know I'm doing this to myself by staying. And I know I should just quit. But I can't. I can't find a different job. I've tried. I've applied to numerous places. I've tried. If I did get an interview, I'm too busy to be hired and they just can't work with my availability. Other times I just can't get a response back. I'm tired. I want to quit but I can't. I can't not have a job.

And I'm kicking myself for believing these people when they told me I was going to get promoted. Every single time when it came to me being rewarded for my hard work, they always dragged their feet on me. The only reason I got promoted quickly the first time is because they needed people to work in that promoted spot and I was the person most qualified for it and could learn the position the quickest.

I should've left over the summer. But I was hyped up to be the next person promoted to manager. They made it seem like it was going to be me. And I believed them. Then in July they told me they weren't going to promote me. Why? Because of my stupid fish allergy. Yes, I know that's illegal. I know what they did was wrong. I can't afford a lawyer. And I'm scared of what will happen if I do go after them legally. They already admitted to my face why they didn't promote me. I don't think they care about the law and punishing me by cutting my hours or retaliating against me.

I know they don't care about retaliation being illegal because my hours just got cut because I called in. Yes, I did call in twice this past month because I was sick. I understand why they are frustrated. But I was sick! And I work in the food industry. I can't be handling people's food while sick. The first time I was throwing up. The second time I couldn't stand without collapsing. That's not safe for me to be working with sharp objects and around hot ovens. Now I'm kicking myself for calling in the second time. I hate myself for not just pushing through and going in anyway. I probably was just overreacting. I mean other people push through it. I should've as well. I know they cut my hours for calling in because my boss consistently cuts people's hours if they call in. For two goddamn years I pick up shifts whenever I can. I stay after my scheduled time or come in early whenever they ask and I had the availability to. I do manager tasks when asked to when the actual manager is busy. I am one of the only people trusted to check big bills despite not being a manger (managers are supposed to do this). After two years of this and suddenly I'm irresponsible and unreliable because I called in? The second time I gave them a doctor's note because I realized this was my second time and I didn't want them to think I was faking it. In my entire 2 years, you could count the times I've called off on one had. Managers, in the past, had to beg me to go home when I came to work when I shouldn't have.

Summer of 2025, I realized I was reacting to the tuna we have. Despite wearing gloves (they're the shitty vinyl ones), I was still reacting when coming in contact. I told this to my boss and asked if I could get better gloves. I got told no because the allergy wasn't documented. I'm a broke college kid and didn't have health insurance at the time. I couldn't just go to the doctor. Despite everyone seeing me react, that wasn't enough. Yet, my boss could have the better gloves. I did try stealing hers, but I was found out and she started locking them away.

Fast forward to this past Spring, I reacted twice in a week to the point I was hospitalized. I had told some co-workers I finally had a note and could get better gloves. That same co-worker told my boss (to notify her so my boss could put the gloves on the next truck order). My boss told that co-worker my note "would do jack shit and she wasn't going to order them." It took me getting hospitalized again for the owners to force her to allow me to use her gloves.

There's probably so much I'm forgetting. So much about me feeling like an inconvenience because now there's procedures in place to keep me safe from the tuna so I don't react again. People make it obvious they feel inconvenienced. And yeah it is inconvenient to have to do all that stuff. I know I'm an inconvenience. I really just wish I would quit. I wish other places would hire me. But they won't. So I'm stuck here.

Thank you for reading through all of this. I just really need to get this frustration out and can't expect my friends or family to put mental energy into this again. I mean, I was told by a friend that I was doing this to myself when I stayed after the second hospital trip. I don't wanna complain again when, yeah, I am doing this to myself at this point. I shouldn't have believed them when they told me I was going to be promoted. I haven't even seen the promotion they promised me when they told me I wasn't becoming manager. The next best thing they said. Haven't even see that promotion or job titled. I should've gotten out this past summer. I'm such an idiot for believing them again. I'm tired of fighting for myself. I'm tired of being promised things to shut me up. I'm so sick of this stupid job that I'm only at because I'm a college kid and this was the only place that hired me. I'm tired of working so hard only to be told I'm good but not good enough.

But I know me. And I know that I grew up being told how important be responsible and living up to commitment is. I can't get myself to punish them by doing the bare minimum. I'm a hard worker. It's in my coding to work hard. Even when I don't get rewarded. I'm foolish and naive to hope one day I will get what I deserve.

I really just do this to myself.

At a crossroad! Help!

hello there,

I’m writing this post as I’m really struggling to make a decision.

I’ve been working a job for the last 2 months- it isn’t my dream job but it’s decent pay and very weirdly I get along with everyone in the team as well as I get to make my own schedule, decide my time off and i never work night shifts.

I’ve been offered another role that offers much more money and credibility. if I worked this job for at least 1 year and I could put that on my cv I would have better future prospects at the same time it would be a very intense job and the mental toll would probably be huge. I’ve already done similar positions in my life and I don’t want to go back to that level of exhaustion especially because it’s clear that there’s issues, issues id have to find a way to fix.

i really don’t know what to choose and im very much struggling

any help is appreciated

I want to quit!

Its been just 5 months only now but all I think about is quit my job. Today I cried in front of my mom too because I don't feel good. Joined Accenture in May,2025 only but not feeling even good. If I resign now I have to pay back bonus. So as per their policy I can resign after 1yr. I know many are struggling to get one, I was one of them. All I wanted was one job so that I can earn and roam. But now I'm not concern about anything. I just want to leave. Any suggestions or help? Co- workers are okaishh and work too.

Actually had a good day at work for once :)

I hate my job so fucking much and I plan to leave at the end of June. So I won’t have to pay back tuition assistance benefits I received. But this weekend I had two good 12hr shifts which was a nice break from the hell that I usually entail. No management is the biggest help as well as having a nursing supervisor on that actually knows how to do her job. We had more staff than usual (still not enough but better than it usually is). My patients weren’t abusive and I didn’t have to float to another department. Just a small win, gave me some hope that I can make it until June.

I want to leave my job

Work has been taking a toll on my mental wellbeing and its getting more toxic, and I’m thinking about leaving. I have a loan to keep paying, no backup job yet, and a website-building side hustle that hasn’t brought in leads so far. For anyone who’s been in a similar situation, how did you plan your next move and manage the financial risk? I’m looking for realistic advice, not just “quit now” or “stay till you find a next job"

I feel stuck

Hello all, about 6 months ago I took a promotion at a job I already wasn't particularly enjoying. I was a shipping/receiving clerk and now after the promotion am the facility manager. I know new jobs are challenging while you figure it out, but at this point I am waiting for ANY benefit from the promotion other than just money. I seriously feel stressed out all the time and I dont sleep well. I just feel stuck because the pay is better than I ever had, but at the same time I literally hate going into work everyday. If I try to make my boss happy, my entire team threatens to quit. If I make the team happy then I have hour long lectures on the phone about how and why I am failing the company. I feel like I need to quit so that I don't have a heart attack or stroke at 30.

I can’t sleep at night, always in tension of job change my job is eating me from inside, seems like I have been proving them since 3 years but that is still not enough. Performance doesn’t have issue as I get perks as well but every day you need to prove yourself is another pressure. Any suggestion?
