That's an interesting question of interpretation. And the Islamic take on it is derived from the 10 commandments. It's that "graven image" bit. And if you remember the old testament, the textbook case is the "golden calf"; at different points in history, any too-realistic image of a human or animal was taken as a violation. The bible is very clear about how we should deal with churches that depict Christ: burn them down, and take nothing of value from the ashes. Frankly, I'm waiting for the wave of arson to follow putting the 10 commandments in schools.

Yep. I really do feel like AI is anti-intellectual. I've heard some people say "its like using a calculator" but thats not really how I feel about it as this seems....different. I dont mind using AI for mind numbing boring corporate bullshit like responding to TPS reports or whatever lame update your boss wants, or maybe even some slides for a client. All that's busy work we do to put food on the table.
But imagine you get married or have a kid or graduate college and your loved ones send you an AI generated card. Or you write a heart felt letter to someone and they summarize it with AI. Ive even seen AI generated responses on social media posts, as if someone really can't string together 2 sentences without using computer software. It just feels like you're outsourcing your critical thinking skills, and thats different than asking a calculator to do 113Ć3841.

I have found, on the whole, that right-wing extremists, evangelicals, and zealots lack creative and logic-based skills, like art, programming, design, etc., and lack the desire to learn.
For example, I've yet to find a large community of right-wing web programmers. Most right-wing political candidates and movements rely on template-based design, website builders, off-the-shelf WordPress templates and cobbled-together code from Stack Overflow. The kind of people you tend to meet in the STEM space have science and logic as a foundation of their beliefs, because they observe, measure and instruct systems to do things in a predictable, logical manner. I think this type of thinking may be allergic to the mental gymnastics and "alternative facts" that you often need to employ to make sense of contradictions and vague notions in religious texts or extreme ideology. Those moments where you want to say "But wait, what about X or Y?" and you're taught that it should only be interpreted the "correct" way, the way that discourages critical thinking.
I'm not a psychologist and I have not read studies on this, so this is purely the conclusion I have come to after 22 years in software development. One of the first people I ever met in software development back in like 2002 was a highly religious "developer" who didn't know how to do anything other than cut-and-paste snippets of ActionScript code that she found on forums into a Flash movie to make buttons work or other things, and she would run classes at the Church to teach others her knowledge. She'd often get stuck on projects when she couldn't find a forum post to copy/paste and we'd have to bail her out, and she'd take credit for the work.
When it comes to art, the overall disdain for popular culture (see: woke panic), the amount of people living alternative lifestyles in those spaces, and the communications and culture bubbles that these types of people live in probably severely limits their influence and growth as an artist, and I would imagine many are discouraged from pursing it as a career path because it is viewed as a liberal art. And going out into the "art world" is probably a scary proposition when you have lived in an echo chamber bubble all your life. What unique perspective would you have for your art if you are essentially being programmed to be a clone of the other men/women around you, to conform and respect authority? Art is the antithesis of that. Art is used daily to protest, provide commentary on social issues, political issues, religion, etc. I just don't see it as a popular path for most indoctrinated people.
Of course there are definitely very religious artists, programmers, etc. There are outliers in anything. But the vast majority of people in these spaces are not locked in an ideological or religious echo chamber where the people in their lives will judge them if they create gothic fantasy art or fan art of a cartoon that has LGBT representation, interracial representation, etc -- anything that may go against the values they are taught.
AI allows people whose whole identity is wrapped up in their religion or ideology, to feel like they can fight back against the liberal, secular world as a whole, by having the computer program (ironically developed by the most liberal people in the world out in San Francisco, on the foundations of science) give them the "skill" they lack. And in their world view it was probably a gift from God or cult leader or some such, nullifying any notion of a "stolen valor" type of feeling where they are using the theft of other people's art or code or whatever, to generate things they couldn't on their own, but now can.
I truly do think there is a link between the lack of critical thinking and being a religious zealot or extremist.
