How important is self respect and does self respect overpowers relationships?

Hi. I'm a mature man (48), architect, with a quite classic style : everyday in shirt, dress pants and tassel loafers. My wife wants to offer me real diamonds set on yellow gold because she would like me to have both ears pierced with real diamonds (identical whose worn by women). She finds it very refined and so sexy for a mature classic man to dare this. I really want to do it, but I don't how I will be perceived by my clients and colleagues at the architecture firm. I think they will be very surprised to see me with both ears pierced with real women's diamonds. I need advice. THANKS so much.
